La Menta Collective Multi-Disciplinary Artist Talk

Join us for a discussion with La Menta Collective founders, Alta Berri and Glendaliz Camacho, and lead singer Bonafide from Mona Passage as they discuss their artistic endeavors and their vision for La Menta Collective.

La Menta means “the mint.” In particular, we are referring to the ubiquitous green mint candy from the Dominican Republic. It’s given as a humble gift and brought back as a small piece of “home.” That is what La Menta Collective is - a gift and a reminder that within the Collective, talent has a home. Although the founders are of Dominican heritage, La Menta Collective is for all.

SALUD Film Screening

SALUD examines the relationship between a womanizer named “Carlos” and his kid “Junito.” Seven years later, Carlos tries to reunite with Junito’s mother, who divorced him for being unfaithful. When depression overtakes him, Carlos descends into a downward spiral of booze addiction. Junito’s refusal to lose his father becomes a powerful struggle, which lead both father and son to discover the true and sometimes painful meaning of unconditional love. Q& A with the filmmaker Cesar de Leon and cast members to follow screening.

This is your last time to check out the incredible La JUNTA mixed media exhibit featuring the work of young Latino artists Alta Berri and Adrian ‘Viajero’ Roman. The exhibit reflects themes of Afro-Latino heritage, immigration, family, spirituality and cultural pride. Light refreshments will be served.

The work of Chris Stain

Just got put on to Chris Stain by @Glendaliz. I’ve admired the work of Swoon and Banksy as well as the work of many other similar street artists for years now. But Chris Stain struck a different chord with me. His work contains blunt social commentary. Its reminiscent of back in the day, its muted in tonality, its grimy like the lives led by his works’ protagonists. I look at Chris Stain’s work and Talib Kweli’s song Get By plays in my head. Thanks Gumbis. Enjoy!
